£8,000 award for Maybole One Stop Shop

The Maybole One Stop Shop has been a fantastic success, and has had a real and positive impact in their community. The Scottish Community Foundation is delighted the project has gained greater recognition.

The Maybole One Stop Shop – an initiative supported by the Scottish Community Foundation – in South Ayrshire has been given a surprise award of £8,000 by ITV programme This Morning as part of their Help the Elderly campaign.

The £8,000 award will help them to further develop their services for the elderly members of their community by opening an Age Concern branch in Maybole.

The One Stop Shop was awarded nearly £140,000 by the Fair Share Trust – administered by the Scottish Community Foundation - as a pilot to provide support to residents of the Maybole area, with a particular focus on senior citizens.

The support it provides has taken a number of forms, including:

  • advice on income maximisation for individuals
  • citizens’ advice
  • access to the internet
  • a free-phone service to contact support agencies
  • provision of accommodation to outreach services
  • a dedicated support worker for senior citizens whose remit is to create a number of new services and activities to promote inclusion among the retired population.

The pilot has been very successful, and has exceeded the number of beneficiaries we anticipated. Maybole One Stop Shop has generated almost £250,000 in unclaimed benefit income for residents of the area since it opened in May 2007.

Maybole One Stop Shop is based in South Ayrshire
