Maritime Rescue Institute, Stonehaven
Seventeen year old Adam Simpson (pictured right) is currently embarking on a three year Maritime Rescue Institute apprenticeship funded by a Scottish Community Foundation community grant. As part of his apprenticeship, Adam will learn about naval architecture, marine engineering and boat building. Once Adam is qualified, he will be a full-time instructor responsible for training future international lifeboat crews, so his apprenticeship will have a continuing impact.
Once Adam is qualified, he could become the coxswain (the person in charge of a boat) of the voluntary lifeboat crew. The area’s current coxswain and two deputy coxswains are due to retire, so Adam’s training will be a real benefit to this coastal community.
