Richmond's Hope, Edinburgh
A parent of a Richmond's Hope service user
Right from the beginning, I trusted them with my child. There’s a sense of belonging, safety and security. I’ve tried getting help before but this has been the most meaningful.
Richmond’s Hope is a project that works with children who have been bereaved in Edinburgh and Midlothian. Since it was established in 2003, the project has helped more than 500 children aged between 4 and 16. Through play, memory boxes and stories, children can tell their own story about the person who has died and about the way they feel.
The project works with each child for three months and also offers support to their families. The aim of Richmond’s Hope is to let children know it’s alright to grieve and to give them the skills to cope with these strong feelings, both now and in the future.
A parent of one of the children helped by the Richmond’s Hope said: ‘Right from the beginning, I trusted them with my child. There’s a sense of belonging, safety and security. I’ve tried getting help before but this has been the most meaningful.’
