Case Studies

Charleston Healthy Action Troopers, Dundee

Anyone who has been to an aerobics class will know that there’s a bit of skill needed to keep up with the instructor while avoiding crashing into the person next to you and keeping in time with the music. For the woman of the Charleston Healthy Action Troopers (CHAT) though, this challenge wasn’t nearly enough!

CHAT was formed in 2002 when a group of local mums saw there was a need for exercise classes in the area. The group used their organisational and persuasive skills to secure their local school hall free of charge for adult fitness classes. They also went the extra mile and arranged a free crèche so single parents could also attend the class.

While building their muscles, two group members also started to build their skills through an Exercise to Music training course. They studied hard (and exercised a lot) to pass their exams and are both now qualified instructors.
