Stepping Stones, Girvan

We work with parents and children in the hope that the lessons are spread through generations. This grant could have a legacy that lasts several lifetimes.

Isobel Lawson, chief executive officer of Stepping Stones

Stepping Stones for Families is a Girvan-based project aiming to strengthen local families. The project provides an intensive family support service to vulnerable families living in Girvan and surrounding areas.

“Many people take for granted the skills needed to make a happy, safe environment for a family,’ says Isobel Lawson, chief executive officer of Stepping Stones for Families.

“However, we know that many people struggle to make and maintain a happy home life. We are there to give support and practical advice to those that need it most.”

Stepping Stones for Families was awarded a £75,000 grant from the William Grant Youth Opportunities Fund. Part of the grant will fund a family support worker who will give practical advice to parents and young people through training and activities.

“This award will help us cover staffing costs, training, rent and materials,” Isobel continued.

“With the funding in place, we can focus on providing services for local families. We work with parents and children in the hope that the lessons are spread through generations. This grant could have a legacy that lasts several lifetimes.”

About the William Grant Youth Opportunities Fund

The Scottish Community Foundation was approached by representatives of the William Grant Youth Opportunities Fund to establish a fund to support voluntary organisations and charities providing services for young people. The fund is aimed particularly at projects which re-engage young people not in education, employment or training in Moray, South Ayrshire, and South Lanarkshire – areas where William Grant & Sons have business interests.

Nicki Cohen, William Grant Youth Opportunities Fund adviser, said: “We’re delighted the fund has been able to support Stepping Stones for Families. There are so many projects doing fantastic work at a local level, and we hope our partnership with the Scottish Community Foundation will help us support many more projects like this.”
