Lord Smith of Kelvin is the first patron of the Scottish Community Foundation.

Lord Smith is the chairman of the Weir Group plc, Scottish and Southern plc, and also the non - executive director of 3i plc, Aegon Uk plc, and Standard Bank.

He also chairs the Smith Group, which advises the Scottish Executive on young people not in education, or employment. In 2008, Lord Smith was appointed chairman of the 2014 Commonwealth Games organising committee.
