Investment Managers at Newton have been referring their clients to the Scottish Community Foundation since 2000. For example, Mrs Ross, a widow with no immediate family was introduced to the Foundation through a meeting with her investment adviser and a Foundation adviser.

Mrs Ross decided to set up the Murray Fund, and transferred assets to the Foundation to make awards to groups in the Highlands, young people and creative arts projects. Newton retains the portfolio of investments, and their client adds annually to her fund to maximise income and capital gains tax benefits. She also plans to leave a legacy to her fund to avoid inheritance tax.
