Bertha Fund
The Bertha Trust formed part of Alan and Alison Findlay’s late father’s estate. Its purpose is to help families in Perthshire, but with the family now based in other parts of the UK, Alan and Alison were looking for a way to meet their father’s charitable intentions without the responsibilities and costs of administering the trust.
They knew of the Scottish Community Foundation, and approached us to find out how we could help. After much discussion, they decided to wind up the Bertha Trust by applying to Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) for reorganisation (the process where the purpose of a charitable trust can be legally modified), and to transfer the assets to a named, restricted fund administered by the Scottish Community Foundation.
The Foundation distributes the income from the investments just as the original trust intended, and we report the fund’s activity to the family, and they have peace of mind that their father’s wishes are being met.
