Eaga Community Fund supports Bike Station Cycle to Recycle
Jed Shirley, Eaga Scotland
As an organisation operating right across Scotland we are extremely keen to support our local communities wherever we can.
Green services provider Eaga Scotland has awarded £2,500 to support a community-based initiative promoting the environmental and health benefits of cycling.
The Bike Station will use the money for its safer cycling scheme.
Thanks to Eaga it can now run 16 community-based events across the Edinburgh area, designed to train, educate and engage the public about the health benefits of bicycling as well as practical safety issues.
The Bike Station is Edinburgh’s bike recycling and cycling promotion charity. As well as repairing old bikes and putting them back on the road it offers riding skills and maintenance courses.
Ruairidh MacGlone, from the Bike Station, said: “Our events attract a diverse range of groups and local residents from areas including Granton, Pilton and Leith, many of whom will not have cycled in the past. This funding from Eaga will help us introduce more people to cycling and to show just how much fun and beneficial it can be. It’s a great way of engaging with our local communities.
Based in Livingston, Eaga Scotland specialises in household energy efficiency improvements and renewable technologies such as solar. It is part of Eaga plc which has around 5,000 employees across the UK.
Jed Shirley, from Eaga Scotland said: “As an organisation operating right across Scotland we are extremely keen to support our local communities wherever we can. The excellent work being undertaken through the Recycle to Cycle project also matches our strong focus on projects which benefit the environment and we are absolutely delighted to help fund the initiative.”
