Sanday Community Association

It’s great fun. You get good food and there’s loads to do, like trampolining. The staff are awesome and always willing to play games, like UNO. It’s definitely something to look forward to in the summer.

Amber, a local playscheme user

The association received funding from the Spurness Fund to run summer playschemes in 2008 and 2009.

Each year 20-25 children aged 5–16 attended over the 25 days they operate, taking part in a range of activities, including pool, table football, team sports, board games, crafts and small scale competitions.

The playschemes are also open to visiting young people, who come along on rainy days when it isn’t the weather for outdoor activities.

The modest grants – £400 and £750 respectively - were critical in supporting the scheme to happen and also provided five weeks employment to two local people.

Here’s what some local children have to say about their playscheme…

Chloe - “I like the summer playscheme because it’s a good palce to catch up with your friends, and something to do when you’re bored!”

Megan - “You get to see your friends during the holidays, and it’s something for us to do instead of sitting at home doing nothing. It’s great fun. Without it I would be really bored.”
