Giles’ background is in the training and development of young people, chiefly the excluded and those with special needs. He holds a B.Ed. (Hons.) in Applied Education.

He has worked for the Foundation since 2001, previously leading the grants programme and also undertaking fund development roles. Appointed Chief Executive in 2004 he is responsible for delivering the strategic vision of the Foundation’s Board. This includes ensuring effective leadership of the Foundation’s staff teams and prudent stewardship of fundholder resources, which ultimately support Scottish communities.

His first task was to reshape the organisation to provide exemplary services for existing fundholders and to widen the reach of the Foundation to new fundholders.

Somehow he also finds time to test his body in various adventure sports and has been known to pack his trainers during the Caledonian Challenge weekend, “just on the off chance!”
