June Hume Memorial Fund
June Hume was a much loved and vital member of the Helensburgh community. She led a remarkably full and active life, whether as a member of the Helensburgh Lawn Tennis Club (where she won the Ladies Annual Championship in 1965) or yachting or hill walking. Indeed as a sprightly 70 year old she climbed Ben Lomond, by torchlight! A tireless supporter of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, she devoted much of her later years to her grandchildren.

June died at the age of 77 from cancer. In her name husband Douglas Hume set up ‘The June Hume Memorial Fund’ to support terminally ill individuals in Scotland, who wish to remain in their own homes throughout their illness.

Where Support Comes From
Rather than buy flowers at her memorial service, friends and family of June Hume chose remember her by making gifts to the fund. Anyone can make a gift to this fund at any time.

How Grants Are Made From The Fund
Recipients of grants will be charities supporting the terminally ill, and relevant departments of the NHS. Funding will also be available directly to individuals whose application is supported by a letter from a medical practitioner. Priority will be given to those from the West Coast and the Highlands and Islands.

The sole purpose of the funding will be to purchase equipment such as baths and stair lifts, reclining beds and chairs, wheelchairs and zimmers, walk-in baths and showers; or to help towards house modifications to accommodate the equipment. Each grant award is expected to be no more than £1000.

Applications will be run on an immediate response basis, with a maximum turnaround of 11 working days from receipt of application. Please note that the June Hume Memorial Fund will make awards in response to demand, to the extent that funds are available. It may not be possible to meet all requests for funding.

The Fund will not reimburse costs already incurred or make grants for items that have already been purchased.

You can make a contribution to this fund. You can apply for a grant from this fund using the application form which can be downloaded from this page. Alternatively, contact us to request a copy of the form by post.
