Achany community page
Welcome to the Achany community page. Here you can find out how local people are using the fund to make positive changes in the community council areas of Ardgay & District, Creich and Lairg.
How the fund works
The Scottish Community Foundation was appointed by SSE to administer the Achany Fund. The Foundation will process applications ranging from £2,000 to £10,000 four times a year, and a local advisory panel - made up of local residents and representatives from the community councils - will decide how the grants are to be awarded.
The panel
In order to get a wide spectrum of knowledge and opinion, the Foundation recommended that the panel was made up of two community council representatives and two residents from each of the three areas.
Each community council put forward representatives based on their involvement with the wind farm development, their interest and availability. Local people were invited to put themselves forward by completing a nomination form and undergoing a brief phone interview with a Scottish Community Foundation grants officer. The phone interview was to gauge the suitable skills, knowledge and experience of the nominee. From this process, the Achany Local Advisory Panel was formed.
Joining the panel
Every August the panel will make its annual review available locally. This will include updated information on how to indicate interest in joining the Panel. Panel members are expected to serve for a minimum of one year and a maximum of three years.
