Fairburn Community Page

Welcome to the Fairburn community page. Here you can find out how local people are using the Scottish Hydro Fairburn Community Fund to make positive changes in their community.

How the fund works
The Scottish Community Foundation was appointed by SSE to administer the Fairburn Fund. A local advisory panel, made up of local residents and representatives from the community council areas of Contin, Marybank, Scatwell & Strathconon and Muir of Ord, makes decisions on grant awards after applications have been submitted to and independently assessed by the Foundation. In order to get a wide spectrum of knowledge and opinion, the Panel is made up of one community council representative and three residents from each of the three areas.

Fairburn Advisory PanelThe Panel
The three community councils ran their own processes for securing wider community representation on the panel with the overall aim of identifying representatives based on their involvement with the wind farm development, their interest and availability.

Marybank, Scatwell & Strathconon Community Council ran a formal election process, posting nomination forms to every household. Voting took place at appointed times for each village, presided over by a returning officer.

The community councils of Contin and Muir of Ord operated closed processes and approached particular residents who it was felt would make a positive contribution to the panel in its early stages. It is hoped that as awareness about the fund grows, momentum too will build in both Contin and Muir of Ord around exploring other open processes for recruiting panel members.

Joining the panel
Every year around September/October the panel will make a summary of its annual review available locally. This will include information on how to express an interest in joining the panel. Panel members are expected to serve for a minimum of one year and maximum of four years.
