VOLANT Charitable Trust

Background

The Scottish Community Foundation works with The VOLANT Charitable Trust, to make awards of up to £10,000 per annum on its behalf to charities and community groups in Scotland.

The application process - from start to end - will be managed by the Scottish Community Foundation, and all enquiries should be directed to us. Please note that there is limited funding available.

Purpose

The VOLANT Charitable Trust, through the Scottish Community Foundation, will provide awards of up to £10,000 per year. The fund’s primary focus is to support women, children and young people who are at risk and facing social deprivation. Projects which tackle serious issues and help people to turn their lives around are given priority.

There is limited funding available, so only those projects that closely match the above criteria are likely to be considered for support.  Projects must demonstrate a strong focus on supporting women affected by hardship or disadvantage and on tackling the issues they face in order to make a lasting difference to their lives and life chances.

For details of projects that have been funded to date from The VOLANT Charitable Trust fund, please visit our grant-making map by selecting VOLANT in the Scheme search box.  A case study of a project funded in 2009 is available to download to the top right of this page.

How to apply

Applications' for up to £5,000 should be made using the Foundation's Community Grants application form.

For applications over £5,000 you should send us an outline of your project in the first instance, using this enquiry form.  This should be completed and emailed to grants@scottishcf.org or posted to us.  We aim to get back to you within 10 working days to let you know if we are able to progress your enquiry further and how to apply.  If you have any questions then please contact Jennifer McPhail on 0141 341 4964.

Before completing the enquiry form, please consider the following guidelines:

  • Although there is no limit to the size of organisation,  we are more likely to support smaller organisations, especially local groups than large national charities.
  • We are likely to fund project costs, though we might be able to support the core costs of an organisation at key stages in its development, e.g. start-up, restructuring or expansion.
  • Grant requests should be a significant contribution to the total project cost rather than a small percentage of a much larger cost.
  • We are unable to assist with contributions to major capital projects.
