Foundation client wins Beacon Award

Entrepreneurial husband-and-wife team Angus and Michie Macdonald picked up the New Initiatives prize at the Beacon Awards in London in November 2010. The Beacon Awards were described by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown as the charitable sector’s equivalent to a Nobel Peace Prize.

Achany apprenticeship scheme pilot takes off

Two local young people have begun apprenticeships, thanks to funding from SSE’s Achany Wind Farm. Andrew Bradford from Tain and Callum Smart from Bonar Bridge recently started work with local businesses, Ardgay Garage and W.M. Plumbing Ltd respectively.

Foundation awards £583,000 in first quarter of 2010/11

The Scottish Community Foundation today (14 September) announced it had made 250 grants since 1 April 2010, 75 more than in the same period last year. Cash-strapped charities and community groups from Lerwick to Stranraer have received funding totalling £583,000.

SSE’s Tangy 2 Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund has opened for its first round of applications. Constituted community groups, not-for-profit organisations and registered charities in the community council areas of Campbeltown, East Kintyre, The Laggan, West Kintyre and Southend can apply for funding.
