Volunteers wanted to give away £3.5M to good causes
Tue 27 Oct 2009
Are you interested in supporting Scotland’s good causes? Do you have two and a half hours a week to spare? The Scottish Community Foundation is looking for a team of volunteer assessors to support its grant-making activities.
The Scottish Community Foundation is one of Scotland’s busiest grant-makers. Every year, it distributes approximately £3.5M on behalf of its clients to exceptional charities and projects across the country. To help the Foundation make the best awards, it is looking for team of dedicated volunteers across the country to help assess applications. Volunteers can work from home, with any expenses reimbursed.
Nick Addington, grants director for the Foundation, said: “The Foundation has worked with volunteer assessors since 1996. We find that our applicants – who are often volunteers - respond well to other people who are giving their time to a good cause.
“We have seven full time grants officers based in Edinburgh and Glasgow, so having assessors based throughout Scotland keeps us informed about the needs of communities from the Highlands and Islands to the Borders.”
In return, the Foundation will provide training; link volunteers to a network of like-minded people, and create opportunities for assessors to visit projects funded by its clients through the Foundation’s grants programmes.
If you are looking for an opportunity to develop new skills, or to deepen your understanding of the voluntary sector, becoming a volunteer assessor could be the role for you.
Please use the following link to download a volunteer assessor application pack. Completed applications should be returned by email to grants@scottishcf.org. If you would like more information, please contact Jennifer McPhail on 0141 341 4960.
The Foundation is also looking for new recruits to its Grants Committee. The Committee, which meets six times a year, is made up of people from across Scotland who are selected for their knowledge of the voluntary and community sector. It plays an important role in determining grant-making policy and making decisions on grant awards.
