Rambling with the Sanday Ranger, Doun Helzie

Welcome to the Spurness community page. Here you can find out how local groups have used their funding to improve Sanday.

Background

The Spurness Wind Farm is a small three turbine wind farm on the southern side of Sanday, built and operated by Scottish and Southern Energy. Through a community benefit fund, SSE is contributing between £16,500 and £25,000 every year to local projects.

How the fund works

Sanday Community Council makes decisions on how the fund should be spent. The community council receives guidance and support from the Scottish Community Foundation, an expert grant-maker in Scotland. The Foundation assesses all applications to the fund, to make sure grants are awarded to the best projects.
