Strengthening Communities

The aim of the Foundation is to help Scotland’s communities become stronger, believing that stronger communities will be more successful communities, with a better quality of life for everyone.

We pursue this aim mainly through grantmaking, providing funding to community groups and charities, those that build and sustain communities at a local level. Through several grant programmes we support a wide range of activities and projects throughout Scotland.

During 2010/11 the Foundation will make hundreds of grants, from £250 to £250,000 each, totalling up to £3.5million. In addition, we will award the Arts Funding Prize for Edinburgh – a single grant of £3M to enable an arts organisation to create a new building in Edinburgh.  Learn more in Apply for a Grant.

You can learn more about how the Foundation builds stronger communities in our Success section. The Advice and Resources section provides guidance for applicants, including how to present your accounts, and information for groups in receipt of a grant. You can read more about our general funding approach and gain useful information, such as other funding sources and ideas about publicising your project.
