General grants over £5,000

As a community foundation we work with a wide variety of supporters who donate funds to the Foundation to support causes of particular interest to them.

Occasionally, we are able to make larger grants over £5,000 (usually up to a maximum of £25,000) where projects match the interests of particular donors and when funds are available. However, the opportunity to apply for larger awards depends very much on what funds we have available and the interests of our current donors. Often a donor’s funds will only be targeted at certain parts of Scotland.

For this reason, you cannot immediately apply to us for larger grants, but we welcome enquiries from organisations that have a specific funding need where more than £5,000 is required. Please note, we do not support general fundraising appeals.

Some themes of interest to us at the moment are:

  • organisations working with women and children affected by deprivation or disadvantage
  • educational initiatives
  • projects working with young people not in education, employment or training.

There is, however, no guarantee that we will be able to accept applications from projects that fit these categories, and neither is this an exhaustive list of themes we might support.

Enquiries about the possibility of larger grants should be made using the downloadable enquiry form below. This should be completed and emailed to grants@scottishcf.org or posted to us. We aim to get back to you within 10 working days to let you know if we think we might be able to help and if so, how to apply. Applications for up to £5,000 can be submitted directly at any time to our Community Grants programme

Before completing the enquiry form, please consider the following guidelines:

  • Although there is no limit to the size of organisation we might support with a larger grant, we are more likely to support smaller organisations, especially local groups than large national charities.
  • Occasionally, we can make awards for more than one year, up to 3 years.
  • Most larger grants are likely to fund project costs, though we might be able to support the core costs of an organisation at key stages in its development, e.g. start-up, restructuring or expansion.
  • In most cases, any grant will be a significant contribution to the total project rather than a small percentage of a much larger cost. We are unable to assist with contributions to major capital projects.
