Growing social capital

Healthier, wealthier and wiser?

The Foundation aims to support activities that engage, involve and connect people, discover and make the most of people’s talents and capabilities, build on and create networks within and between communities, and nurture relationships of trust through working together. Achieving these things is sometimes described as helping to build social capital.

We believe that projects that work in this way will be more successful and will also facilitate further positive outcomes for their communities.

The Foundation is interested in the potential of the concept of social capital to help us and others think about how we work to build stronger communities. We have supported Assist Social Capital (www.social-capital.net) to develop work in this direction. You can download a case study, below, showing how one community group in Argyll, Here We Are, makes a real difference by fostering the development of social capital.

Social capital is also a key theme for our Community Investment Programme.
